Time Volition Dice and Love Will Bury Information technology is the 5th studio album by English experimental stone band Rolo Tomassi, released on ii March 2018 by Holy Roar Records.
Background and recording [edit]
Synthesiser player and vocalist, James Spence had stated in interviews he wanted to make a "make clean intermission" from the "dark, monochromatic" style of their 2015 album Grievances. He said that "I felt like I'd overcome everything that we'd written inside that tape. For me, it was about moving forwards and taking things to a slightly happier place".[1]
Time Volition Die and Beloved Will Bury It was recorded, like their previous album Grievances, at The Ranch in Southampton.[2] James Spence noted how during the writing when other band members were producing a lot of ideas, Cayford was struggling to output similar amounts. However this frustration manifested in the song "Rituals" and helped him to push button past.[two] Guitarist Chris Cayford's and drummer Tom Pitts' system of developing music was that Cayford would send Pitts a MIDI file with his guitar work with ideas for drumming he wanted to go with it.[3] Pitts said in an interview how he would experiment on music software such as Cubase and have ambitious ideas that he struggled to play, "I'll write something ridiculously impossible, try to play it and then take to dumb it down a bit. We go dorsum and forth. A lot of it is washed on MIDI where I tin can go it exact and then acquire it from there".[3]
The title of the anthology Time Will Die and Love Will Bury It is derived from a poem by Richard Brautigan.[1]
Composition [edit]
The title of the album Fourth dimension Volition Die and Love Will Coffin It has been an ambiguously interpreted statement by different members of the band which has influenced diverse song writing- while James Spence saw it every bit a positive title, Chris Cayford saw its darker connotations.[one] The music of the album has been described as mathcore,[four] [5] post-rock,[six] [7] [8] experimental rock,[vi] [9] with heavy elements of ambient music.[4] [6] [vii]
Release and promotion [edit]
Rolo Tomassi had a minimal tour schedule in 2017 which featured appearances at the Two Thousand Trees and Tech Fest festivals in the UK, unveiling new cloth with a promotional website, lovewillburyit.com.[ten] [11] [12] On 5 Nov 2017 the band released the first unmarried from Time Volition Die and Honey Will Bury It, "Rituals", on BBC Radio 1, with a music video accompanying information technology the side by side day.[two] [12] [13] A few days afterwards the single'southward release, the band performed ane headline prove in London at the Borderline with back up from characterization mates Conjurer, [11] where they performed "Rituals" and "The Hollow Hour".[14] On 12 Feb 2018 the 2nd unmarried "Aftermath" was released.[15]
The anthology was released on Holy Roar Records in the Britain on 2 March 2018.[16] Prior to its release, the album was streamed on The Independent'due south website.[one]
During the recording of Time Will Die and Love Will Bury It Cayford used software similar Ableton Live to coordinate lights to be used during live performances to synchronise with the music.[3] The band embarked on their get-go tour since the album was released in April across the UK and mainland Europe.[13] [xv] The band performed at a series of European festivals, a six engagement UK tour in November with Blood Command and Cassus,[17] then a United States tour November and December supporting The Number Twelve Looks Similar Yous with Arsonists Get All The Girls.[18]

At Metacritic, which assigns a rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, Time Volition Die and Dear Will Coffin It has received an boilerplate score of 92, based on vii reviews, indicating "universal acclaim";[19] information technology is the second highest-scoring album of 2018 on the site.[23]
Kerrang! gave the anthology a perfect score, citing it equally "a classic" and "a hugely satisfying mind, with the longer songs in particular assuasive the band free rein to indulge every experimental urge."[6] NME was similar in its cess, saying "whereas Grievances was so dour you could feel the boring ache of its bruises, Time Will Die's increased use of light and infinite ensures information technology stands alone in an arsenal of already exceptional records."[v]
The Line of Best Fit gave the album a 7.5/10, terminal that "Rolo Tomassi are a ring still looking to push themselves further frontward creatively, while remaining just as focused on retaining the dramatic cadre of their audio that has long set them apart from whatsoever contemporaries."[8]
